Out Loud! The Metro Library Network Author Series
has been successfully presenting authors in the greater Cedar Rapids
area since 2008. Each year, the series presents a writer with ties to
the University of Iowa writing programs, a youth author, and a
“mainstream” author. Since 2009, the series has collaborated with Linn
Area Reads to present the author of the book chosen for the community
reading program. Out Loud! is the only author reading series of its kind in the Cedar Rapids metro area, though it complements the occasional readings presented by others in the community, as well as similar programming in Iowa City. In 2010, Out Loud! collaborated with the Englert Theater in Iowa City on programming for author Charlaine Harris, demonstrating that the series is well-integrated into the Corridor’s robust literary scene. The series is funded by the Giacoletto Foundation. The Giacoletto Foundation was established in 2007, fulfilling the wishes of the late Giacoletto brothers. Born in Clinton, Indiana, John worked for Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids and Lawrence was a professor of engineering at Michigan State University. Media support for the series has been provided by The Gazette. |

The Small Business Series, a collaboration between SCORE® East Central Iowa and the Metro Library Network, is designed to help more new businesses get off the ground successfully in our community. The series works to demystify the business start-up and operation processes. Aspiring or current entrepreneurs learn what to expect from experts who have been there and done well.
Each roundtable includes an introduction to a new topic, followed by an open
and facilitated question-and-answer period. Learn about business in bite-sized
pieces, ask any question, get answers, and grow your skills. All roundtables
are free and open to the public. |

Linn Area Reads is a project initiated by the Metro Library Network to encourage all residents of Linn County to read and discuss the same book. Each spring, a committee of collaborating organizations, including the Cedar Rapids Public Library, Hiawatha Public Library, and Marion Public Library, selects a new title and organizes programs and discussions around its theme. So far each succeeding year has seen more organizations and institutions involved in the planning and programming, furthering the group’s ongoing goal to promote reading to all citizens of the county! |
